Ruth Alston Weston was born on January 12th, 1928 i Portsmouth, Virginia. In 1945, aged 17, Brown ran away from her home along with the trumpeter Jimmy Brown to sing in bars and clubs, where she caught the attention of Cab Calloway’s sister Blanche, who became her manager, and she soon signed to “Atlantic” records, where she had a string of hits, by the mid 1970’s she had launched a career in TV, film, and stage, and was still touring at the age of 78. Ruth Brown sadly died in Las Vegas on November 17th, 2006. This disc from 1960 is a 6 inch test pressing of some sort on thin vinyl, with a track by a different artist on the flip. checkout the photos for a better description of the label. The disc has light wear, conservatively graded in VG+ condition and plays with a little background noise
